BARBARIANS Season 2 Netflix Release: Does “German Vikings” Show Have a Future?

Hey, guys! As many of you already binged on the first season of the new German Netflix Original series Barbarians, Netflix is yet to renew Barbarians for Season 2. The historical action drama series, based on the real Battle of the Teutoburg Forest between Romans and Germans in 9 AD, was advertised as a mini-series, but if viewership numbers continue to grow, nothing prevents Netflix from making Season 2 despite high production costs and additional hurdles posed by the COVID situation. Barbarians could join the ranks of ambitious historical shows like Vikings and The Last Kingdom, but while viewers praised the show for an insight into a pivotal historic battle, they criticized it for poorly written dialogue, mediocre acting, and mostly for pushing feminist propaganda. Whether Barbarians can become a “German Vikings” will depend solely on Netflix’s ability to do the homework for Season 2. If a second season is made, the historical context provides plenty of scope and possibilities, as the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest had major consequences in later strategies of the Roman conquest.
