Palm Beach County, FL spans 1,927 square miles and 39 municipalities, including large swaths of rural agricultural land. With more than 1.5 million residents, it is the third most populous county in Florida, home to a diverse range of residents, including migrant farmers and immigrants from many different countries. Although the county’s demographics include retirees and some of the wealthiest people in the world, nearly 20% of children in the county live in poverty. Palm Beach County’s success centers around its emphasis on “co-powering” solutions — the idea that residents who have been excluded from power should participate in making the decisions that can improve the county’s Culture of Health. Over the past decade, the community has been making huge strides in the areas of behavioral and mental health, racial equity and “cradle to career” advancements for children and young people. And through it all, it is the residents who are helping to set priorities and create pathways for improvement.
