The challenging surf spot known as Crayfish Factory Beach or just Factory is situated between Kommetjie and Scarborough on the Atlantic Seaboard in the Western Cape Province. It is raw, wild, and everything that pro surfers love when it comes to testing their skills. However, it is not recommended for beginner surfers or any swimmers, thanks to its rocky conditions, kelp, and sharky waters. This beach offers an exposed reef break with impressive waves, which tend to originate from distant groundswell. Thanks to these big waves, surfers need to be paddling-strong to handle the really big days. The best swell direction is from the south-west, and winter tends to be the best time of year for an epic surf. Waves have a high frequency and average lengths of between 150 and 300 metres. On good days, this can extend to 500 metres. They are powerful, hollow, fast and ledgey. Still, because of the tricky conditions, the waters are never crowded, even on weekends. Crayfish Factory Beach is open to the public. It is about 10 minutes away from Kommetjie and Scarborough (in opposite directions), and just under an hour from the City Bowl of Cape Town. Kommetjie is a beautiful coastal village, while Scarborough is a quaint conservation village. Both are breath-taking in their beauty and make for complete escapes from city life. Video made by Invader
