Blacksmithing: Forging a Socket Axe

I was commissioned to make a socketed hewing axe like the one you've seen in one of my previous. This socket axe is designed after historical examples going back to the middle ages. Its main purpose is hewing, meaning the squaring of felled trees to beams for wood construction, like timber framing. The axe was constructed in a traditional way. Consisting of 3 pieces joint together by forge welding. In total the piece has 3 forge welds. The first was done to weld the sheet stock for to socket to itself into a cone. The second was to insert a high carbon bit into the split end of the mild steel body of the axe. The third and last was to join the socket and the body of the ae together. I glossed over the proces of making the handle since I have made multiple videos of that proces before.
