Meet Itziar Oyarzabal, an Ikerbasque Research Professor at BCMaterials. She is a chemist whose research focuses on molecular materials with magnetic properties, designed for use in electronic devices such as computers, data storage systems, mobile phones, and even everyday household appliances. Her work explores new environmentally friendly materials that can replace those currently in use. The goal is not only to reduce their environmental impact, but also to match or even improve their performance, paving the way for more sustainable technologies. More recently, Itziar has expanded her research into metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) that can be used as qubits for quantum computing, opening new possibilities at the intersection of chemistry, materials science, and quantum technologies. Itziar’s path into science was not a conventional one. She didn’t start with a clear scientific vocation, but she was drawn to chemistry. As she explored the field more deeply, she realized that science was where she truly belonged. #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM #Chemistry #MaterialsScience #SustainableMaterials #GreenChemistry #QuantumComputing #MOFs #MagneticMaterials #Researchers #ScienceCareers #InspiringWomen #STEMInspiration
