Moore was a four-year letter-winner at quarterback for the Elon football program (1997-2000) who was ideal for running the maroon and gold's triple-option attack. In 44 career games under center, Moore threw for 2,476 yards and 23 touchdowns, while rushing for 3,197 yards and 32 scores. His rushing total still rates as the third-highest in program history. Moore concluded his career with 5,723 total offensive yards, a number which was a school record at the time and that still is the second-highest total in program history. In each of his four seasons, Moore accounted for over 1,300 total offensive yards. He has two of the three longest runs from scrimmage ever by an Elon player, including a 90-yard scamper against Morehead State in 1998 that is the longest run. Moore was also the quarterback on the eighth-longest pass play in school history - a 78-yard connection to Jerry Wallace against Western Carolina in 1997. He led the team in rushing in three seasons (906 yards in 1997, 834 yards in 1998 and 807 yards in 2000) and for four years in passing (572 yards in 1997, 526 yards in 1998, 660 yards in 1999 and 768 yards in 2000). Moore amassed 196 total points which places him 10th on the program's all-time chart. A 2001 graduate of Elon, Moore resides in New Bern, N.C., where he is in management at Waffle House. He and his wife Karen have two children - a son, Derrick, Jr., and a daughter, Takota Sue.
