WISCONSIN POLKA: Kenny Hottenroth / Oscar Meyer Weiner Polka / KL 9 / c1970

Kenneth D. Hottenroth, a native of Menomonee Falls, WI, was a seaman in the US Navy in the mid 1950s. He married Betty Winkenwerder and they raised four children in the nearby village of Sussex. A tool and die maker, Kenny was active in local government. His orchestra, which advertised engagements between 1969 and 1987, made at least three 45s for the KL label in the early 1970s. A resident of Iron Ridge with his second wife, Deborah Van Pietersom, Kenny passed away in 1989 at the age of 55. KL Recording Service was operated by Ronald Klein in Hubertus, WI, just northwest of metropolitan Milwaukee, from 1969 to 1998. Klein was a radio and TV repair apprentice before he was drafted into the Army in 1952, becoming Chief Engineer of Army Radio Station VUNC in Tokyo. He worked in electronics in Milwaukee until starting KL at his Hubertus home, using equipment he had largely designed and built himself. Recordings were primarily of polka music with some gospel and country. Klein also sang with the barbershop group Meno-Har-Monee (of Menomonee Falls).
