Well, this is my first attempt at recording something not only on my new Weber Yellowstone Octave mandolin, but also on my Belgarth Bodhran. The Weber is in standard tuning, and I overdubbed a rhythm guitar part on my Brook Tavy (bubinga back and sides, 12 frets to the body). The arrangements are by Doc Rossi in his excellent book ASAP Irish Mandolin. There are some great tunes in here that work very well on octave mandolin. This was recorded with a matched pair of Rode NT55's in ORTF configuration. No reverb was added, and no editing of any kind. I know the ensemble is a little ropey in places, and my Bodhran playing leaves a lot to be desired. I've only been learning it 'properly' for about a month, and I use an excellent hot rod tipper made by Steve Moise. Thanks, go easy on me, I know my mandolin playing isn't quite up to the same standard as my guitar playing.
