Colonel Studios – painting miniatures, one model at a time. In this video I showcase my full painting process for Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines. Using an airbrush, I start by priming the model and building a zenithal-style volumetric highlight with white ink to establish the light and shadow. From there, I glaze in translucent blue contrast paint to develop the Ultramarines armour while preserving the underlying highlights. The process also includes edge highlighting, oil washes to reinforce the recesses, and final detail work to bring the miniature together. The goal of this approach is to create strong contrast and clean readability on the tabletop while keeping the process efficient and repeatable. While I show the specific paints I used for this model, the exact brand or colour isn’t critical. Close substitutes will usually work just as well. If you’re looking for alternatives, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll try to help. If you enjoy miniature painting tutorials and Warhammer hobby content, consider subscribing to follow along as I document more projects and techniques. 0:00 Introduction 0:26 Paints Used 0:45 Priming the Model 1:05 Zenithal Underpainting 2:45 Edge Highlighting 3:24 Gloss Varnish 3:38 Oil Wash 4:30 Cleaning the Wash 4:55 Frostheart Blue Layer 5:55 Deepening Shadows 6:41 Final Edge Highlights 7:40 Details & Metallics 8:00 Cloak 9:08 Fluorescent Pigments 9:42 Final Thoughts #Warhammer40K #MiniaturePainting #Ultramarines #WarhammerPainting
