How safe are the Scottish Highlands? Let me put it to you this way: I never truly felt safe anywhere in my life until I moved to the Far North of Scotland. The statistics make it clear: the Highlands, particularly the Far North, are one of the most sparsely populated places in all of Europe. And, as a byproduct of that low population density, they're also incredibly safe. Nowhere is perfect, of course -- crime can happen anywhere at anytime to anyone -- but in general the Far North is a very safe place to live. Safety is more than just crime, though: road quality and climatology also have a major impact on day-to-day life, and these are factors which have to be weighed out as well. The scenery is just beyond belief. If you told me Wester Ross and the west coast of Sutherland were Middle Earth, or Narnia, or Ferelden, I'd absolutely believe it. We also give a shout-out to another Scotland-based channel: Simple Scottish Living, run by Zach and Annie. We also announce the possibility of paid sponsors on this channel in the future. Oh, and Annabelle makes another kitty cameo! For the cinephiles: this video was filmed with two cameras -- a Canon R50 in 16mm with ND filter, and my Samsung Galaxy S25 Android phone. With the Canon, I shoot 8-bit Rec. 709. No filming in log, no LUTs. Audio captured with wireless Rode lav mics. Background music courtesy of Artlist. Edited in Adobe Premiere. Maybe I'll start up a Patreon or something so I can afford better equipment, but hey, this is what I've got right now, so hopefully you enjoy it.
