(24 May 1998) English/Nat The bodies of William and Faith Kinkel - allegedly mudered by their son Kip - have been removed from the family home in Oregon. Investigators also removed five sophisticated bombs from the house. The teenager is accused of killing his parents and then embarking on a shooting spree at the local high school - killing two more people and injuring another 18. Police say the 15-year-old Kinkel later attempted to stab a police officer while the teenager was held at the county jail.. At the site of the killings, Thurston High School in Springfield, the day dawned grey and drizzly. Despite the weather, the chain-linked fence in front of the school grew more colourful, stuffed with flower bouquets, cards, signs, teddy bears, balloons, poems and prayers. A steady stream of people walked along the fence pausing to read messages and look at the flowers. Mid-way along the wall of flowers, students at Thurston High School set up a "No-media" zone, designated by yellow police crime scene tape as they hoped to escape cameras and microphones. One by one, those victims who have been released from the hospital made their way to the wall. Among them was Ryan Crowley, who attacked Kip Kinkel when the gun Kinkel was firing ran out of bullets. SOUNDBITE: (English) "He just, almost like, he just put the gun up against Mike's head and pulled the trigger. And then put it at my head, and pulled the trigger and, you know. That's when I got up and hit him three times and then he was tackled. And, I ran into the office and told them to call 9-1-1, that people had been shot." SUPER CAPTION: Ryan Crowley-Wrestled Kip Kinkel to the ground Also appearing at the wall were several shooting victims who were released from the hospital on Friday or Saturday morning. SOUNDBITE: "I'm glad I don't know him. Because, I hate his guts. I could never forgive. I know people who say, 'well, I forgive him.' I can't forgive him. He's ruined not just these people's lives, but pretty much the whole town. Everybody's lives was somehow pretty much affected by this and it won't be the same. It's not that we can just get on with it, because that's not what's going to happen. It will never be right, or the same again." SUPER CAPTION: Trina Harty-Shooting victim Police continued the investigation at the house Kip Kinkel lived in until last Thursday. Police say his bedroom closet and even the crawl space underneath the house was stockpiled with sophisticated explosive devices. It's believed that Kinkel downloaded instructions for building these devices from the Internet. Police say at least five bombs and 15 other explosive devices were hidden around the house and could have been rigged to explode. The Kinkel house is located in a rural cluster of affluent homes nestled among tall pine trees. Also on Saturday, police reported Kinkel attempted to stab an officer who was beginning an interrogation of the teenager. Kinkel apparently had a pocket knife taped to his leg that escaped notice when he was booked following Thursday's shooting at the Thurston High School. When he was left alone while the officer went to secure his weapon, the teenager managed to move his handcuffed hands over his head and open the knife. As the officer returned, he lunged towards him with the knife. The officer subdued Kinkel who is in custody on four counts of aggravated murder. Because he is only 15, he cannot be executed if found guilty. Two attorneys have been appointed to represent him, and he is not due back in court until June 16.
