Established in 1992, Yang Kil-Soon Dance Company has researched the history and origins of traditional dance and studied and performed tradition-based contemporary dance works, folk dance, and the entire Kim Sukja-style dance works. On top of its diverse activities in Korea, the group presents stages of Korean traditional dance in many countries, including the US, Japan, the UK, and Argentina. ---------- [곡소개 Work Description] 도살풀이춤 군무 Dosalpurichum Group Dance / 구성 양길순 Organized by Yang Kil-Soon 국가무형문화재로 지정된 도살풀이춤은 도당(都堂)살풀이를 줄인 말로써 민속무의 하나로 행해지고 있는 살풀이춤의 원조형이다. 본뜻은 흉살과 재난을 소멸시켜 ‘행복을 맞이한다’는 종교적 소원에서 비롯된 것이다. 도살풀이춤은 자연스럽고 소박하며 삶의 깊은 뜻을 가지고 있다. 긴 수건으로 공간에 다양한 선을 그리고, 그 형태는 하나의 그림과도 같다. 무복은 흰색으로 화려하지는 않으나 더욱 정갈하고 깨끗해 보인다. 이 춤은 멈춘 듯 움직이고, 움직임 속에 정지된 한국적인 특징을 보인다. Dosalpurichum (Dosalpuri being short for Dodangsalpuri), a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea, is the prototype of Salpurichum, one of Korea’s folk dance forms. The dance originated from religious wishes to eliminate misfortunes and invite happiness. Characterized by its naturalness and plainness, Dosalpurichum Dance incorporates life’s most profound meanings. In the dance, long towels draw various lines, which look like a painting. The white costumes look tidy and immaculate, not fancy though they are. The dance showcases Korea’s character: movement under the surface of stillness and stillness hidden in active motion.
