When I visited the sunflower fields in Iwamoto, Fuji, Shizuoka, it felt like stepping into a painting. The fields stretched out in a sea of yellow, with row after row of sunflowers all facing the sun. And the backdrop on a clear day? Mt. Fuji rising gracefully in the distance. That combination of golden blooms and the mountain made it feel almost unreal. What I loved was how peaceful and low-key it was. This isn’t a commercial festival field, but a volunteer-maintained one, so it feels authentic and cared for by the community. There weren’t huge crowds, in fact, we were the only ones admiring the view when we stopped by, which made the experience feel even more special. If you’re traveling by car, it’s really convenient—there’s parking nearby, and it’s easy to combine your stop with Iwamotoyama Park, which has walking paths, a café, and observatories. I visited in mid-summer when the flowers were at their peak, and I’d definitely recommend going in the morning or late afternoon for the best light. There are no facilities, so bring some water and be ready for a simple countryside stroll. For me, it wasn’t just about the sunflowers—it was about the serenity of the place and the care behind it, and if you’re lucky, that perfect, postcard-worthy view of Mt. Fuji. If you’re driving through Shizuoka in summer, this is absolutely worth the stop. Enjoy! Iwamoto, Fuji, Shizuoka 416-0901, Japan
