This is an update from our first 1 hectare Syntropic system at the end of the rainy season, entering into our roughly 5 month dry season. This system is now 3 1/2 years old, the cacao is between 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 years old and we have learned so much since we planted here. I'd say out biggest take aways are: we should always loosen the soil all the way along the line to a depth of at least 40 cm (we have compacted clay soils). we should plant more tree seeds to achieve "successional accumulation" as Scott Hall calls it. (http://syntropia.com.au/scott-hall) replant replant replant because in our case, the bunnies, armadillos and many other small mammals take out our small trees and leave us with successional gaps don't be shy to use some good bio fertilizers early on: manures, composts, bokashi, etc. Not good to be TOOO purist when it comes to the bioaccumulation of fertility ! be humble but keep the faith! It takes time, but if you are building above and below ground biomass... the system will gradually begin to perform better and better.
