Darling You Know written by Wells, Moore, and Kinney performed by The Four Gems* recorded in New York, in 1952, overdubbed background vocals recorded circa 1968** released as Broadcast 1001, circa 1968** The band here features Leoparte "Chink" Kinney (sax), Jackson "Flap" McQueen (bass), Joe Crump (piano), and probably Herb Milliner (drums). If you listen to this and ask yourself, "Boy, that sounds almost like The Ray-O-Vacs? As a matter of fact, this sounds almost like Jubilee 5124, issued in September 1953!" Well, you would be correct. *So, this group calling themselves The Four Gems is Herb Milliner (lead, from the original 1952 recording), with Billy and Dom D'Elia (tenor), Sal Mondrone (baritone), and Sam Wood (bass). Yes, The Sparrows Quartet! **I am guessing on the date based on how it looks and what I think I know about the Sparrows Quartet's timeline. If this dates from right before they broke up for a few years, 1968 is a great guess. They reformed in 1971 and that is when the majority of the Broadcast and Jet Record Co. singles were released. So, this could be from 1971 and they just had not settled on how the labels would look. I wasn't there but, maybe you were. That is why there is a comments section. Fell free to bleep-bloop those details down there, please. NOTE: The material featured in this video is from a non digital, analog source and of "substandard" quality.
