Here is a marvelous example of a TRUE vintage high fidelity classic - The Fisher X-202 Stereo Tube Integrated Amplifier! I completely restored this amp back in 2009 and now after much use an original filter cap has failed and must be replaced. In addition, the amplifier went through the usual VERY thorough check and cleaning required of ALL vintage tube equipment. Vacuum Tube Hi-Fi servicing is a VERY time consuming process IF done CORRECTLY. I cannot overemphasize the importance of being THOROUGH and not taking any shortcuts. This amplifier uses the 7189 output tube and delivers around 18-20 watts per channel RMS. It is an EXTREMELY well designed amp that has controls to adjust the bias on each tube individually! This is the Cadillac of amplifier design and with a little bit of familiarity this amp can be fine tuned to perfection. However, preparation and cleaning are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and shortcuts must be avoided! The cleaning, testing of tubes, and general preparation alone BEFORE the unit is even powered up takes WELL OVER TWO HOURS! There is a SEVERE lack of expertise today when it comes to vacuum tube Hi-Fi and a LOT of MISINFORMATION out there so I sincerely hope this video will shed some light on the procedural aspects of this wonderful and rewarding hobby! Check out the follow up video on a problem this amp had!
