Riding the New LA Metro A Line Extension: A Transit Dream Come True Series

On this episode of AntSol Travel, we will explore the LA Metro’s latest expansion, the Foothill Extension into the San Gabriel Valley with Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne & the Pomona Fairplex, and Pomona North for easy transfers with the Metrolink San Bernardino line. We will take a look at each of the stops and what happens to be transit oriented business at each stop, except Pomona, there isn’t much in the surrounding area. Let’s explore Southern California by transit, here on AntSol Travel! LA Metro A line: The LA Metro A line expansion from Azusa’s stop at APU/Citrus College to Pomona opened on September 19, 2025! Adding 9.1 miles, now adding to the 58 mile long A line, the longest light rail line in the world to Long Beach. The new stops include Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex located next to the Fairplex & University of La Verne, and Pomona North Metrolink station for easy transfers to Metrolink San Bernardino line & Cal Poly Pomona via bus. The expansion cost $1.5 billion that is a vital connection to get people out of cars to work, school, errands, and entertainment by transit! Let’s take a nice ride along the line on this mostly unedited video of my experience on the extension. I will be doing a more analytical video later. Sit back & relax as we explore SoCal by transit! Construction is being managed by Foothill Extension Construction Authority with funding from LA Metro. People came in droves to explore the extension with free events & free fares on the opening weekend, which I have missed since I was at work that whole weekend. However, I made a bus ride via Riverside Transit Agency 200 Commuter Express bus to San Bernardino & Metrolink ride to Pomona from Anaheim to check it out a day after free fares were and stressed tested the new full height fare gates & system. What transit oriented businesses are now added with the A line extension? Transit oriented is the half mile radius of the bus stop or train station to business, offices, schools, and housing. Pomona North Station: Welcome to Pomona North station with easy transfer between Metrolink & LA Metro A line with adjacent trackage. Foothill Transit now has the 197, 291, 492, and Cal Poly Pomona’s Bronco Express bus. The city’s name is after the Roman Goddess of Fruit since it was a huge center for agriculture back when it was incorporated in 1888. Mainly Industrial & offices in the immediate vicinity, not many restaurants. La Verne/Fairplex: The stop has University of La Verne to the north with a dense Old Town commercial core for the college students, and the Pomona Fairplex & Brackett Airport to the south, perfect for the LA County Fair & other events there. Stop for the Foothill Transit 197 is in the bus bays. I walked a quarter mile to get a refreshing frozen yogurt & Gaderaid on a hot day from Granny’s Yogurt. You can definitely tell it was a former Yogurtland. San Dimas: Has strip malls next to the station along E Bonita Ave. and has stops for Foothill Transit's 492 bus, and more importantly is the new 295 bus to Cal Poly Pomona & Mt. San Antonio College. In an adjacent business park is the Rail Side Cafe at a new transit oriented office commercial development with neat murals of the San Dimas station ads from the Santa Fe days. Just down E Bonia Ave is San Dimas city hall & library. There is a sports card store as well, A&N Collectables, where I got several sports cards. Right up the track at the former San Dimas Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway station is the Pacific Railroad Society, one of the oldest railroad enthusiast societies as it first started in 1936. Much farther down South San Dimas Ave & left onto Puddingstone Ave is Raging Waters & Puddingstone Reservoir. Glendora: Fairly low density with townhouses to the north & commercial/industrial areas to the south. It is right near the USPS post office as well. Foothill Transit has 284 buses. Glendora has the City of Glendora shuttles that loop around town for $1 per way, there are a few routes that includes a shuttle to the Metrolink station and now with an A line shuttle line. Just north on Glendora Ave is a quant street with shops & restaurants.
