November means night photography in the Nordic Countries

In this video, I take you with me into the deep winter darkness of Helsinki as I try to photograph during the coldest, dimmest months of the year. With only a few hours of daylight, freezing temperatures, and the limitations of my Hasselblad H5D’s CCD sensor and ISO 80 base sensitivity, shooting becomes a real challenge—long exposures, missed focus, and constantly fighting blown highlights. Still, the quiet industrial landscapes, misty nights, and soft winter colors offer something uniquely beautiful. Join me as I explore shortcuts, empty roads, and eerie nighttime scenes, reflecting on gear limitations, the struggle to work in near darkness, and the surprising calm found in these cold, lonely moments.
