They form tart green fruits within a papery husk resembling a paper lantern shape. Tomatillos are a plant of the #nightshade family including the popular, sweeter #Physalis #Peruviana. Tomatillos are sun-loving and fairly easy to grow in good compost with regular watering. They are ripe when they break out of their husk which eventually reveals lovely little green fruits with a tart flavour. Use them in #Salsa Verde or a green #shakshuka, roasted Tomatillo sauce, and a whole bunch of other recipes. I grow #Figs in a south-facing, warm, well-drained sheltered spot in full sun. Restrict root growth with buried paving slabs or similar barriers; you'll contain the plant and encourage it to bear more fruit. Most fig trees take three to six years to start ripening fruit after figs have formed along stems and leaf nodes. In UK they ripen during September-October. The tiny embryo fruitlets formed in the autumn are next year’s harvest and they will overwinter to produce a crop of figs the following year. Figs and Tomatillos seem to do well on my sunny south-facing slopes. In my corner of #Devon, the climate is generally mild and the summers are warm. We've been used to a good amount of rainfall although for the past couple of years we've had around a third less rainfall than average. We will eventually have to grow more food which is able to be stored and dried for long periods. For Fig #recipes, go to https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/c....
