Here is the 26mm Smartcarb SC2 install and initial setup changes made at the racetrack. The bike has never worked right with the 24mm Keihin Clone carb. The problems there have been from 1/8 - 1/2 throttle. Initial throttle openning problems at mid-corner followed us all of last year and changes to the pilot jet and mixture screw were on-going all year long. The carb settings were what the manufacturer dialed in for a Yamaha TTR125 with a pod airfilter, a pipe (we run a Tyga exhaust), and no other mods. We are running a stock Yamaha motor after we abandoned the original, and very tired, Kayo 125 motor. This throws a VERY expensive upgrade at the problem. Here is how it went... In short, I won’t hesitate (funds allowing) to put a smartcarb on my Kayo 150. It runs acceptably now. But my buddy has the same bike with a completely stock powertrain. And he pulls me down every straight. I have ridden his bike and it is fantastic. So it seems likely the SC would nail the setup needed. This just reinforces getting your fuelling right is significant. If you can do that with a $30 carb because yur skills are sharp, kudos to you. I will be saving my pennies.
