Hearing His call to the Kingdom can change everything in a moment—that is conversion. Living within that Kingdom, however, shaping your entire existence around Him, is the steady, lifelong task of sanctification. Conversion is a matter of a moment. Sanctification is the work of a lifetime. The Transfiguration. Don't value too highly these things that begin only to end. Earthly things fade, mere incense smoke compared to the eternal feast of Love awaiting us in Heaven. Cherish those moments when, like the Apostles on the mountain, He grants a fleeting glimpse of that satisfying glory to strengthen your hope. The Institution of the Eucharist. It would have been mad enough to have chosen to become a helpless Child. But even then, many wicked men might have been softened, and would not have dared to harm him. So this was not enough for him.
