This video is a recording of the Inaugural Lecture of the Centre for Constitutions in Context (CCC) delivered online by Jill Cottrell Ghai on 16 September 2025. Jill discussed Context in Comparative Constitutional Law. Jill was presented, and the lecture's Q&A portion was moderated, by CCC co-directors Dr David Vitale and Dr Mara Malagodi. Jill Cottrell Ghai is a renowned and influential scholar and practitioner of constitutional law. Educated at the LSE and Yale Law School, she taught law for over 40 years at universities across the globe, including the University of Warwick. Jill also advised on the constitution-making processes of several countries, including East Timor, Nepal, Maldives, Iraq, and Somalia. Since 2008, she has played a pivotal role in promoting knowledge, and facilitating the implementation, of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, including as co-founder and, currently, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Katiba Institute.
