This is a follow up to the VPI Scout Turntable video I released last week. If you haven't seen the first video I suggest you watch that one first. You can access it here: System Update! Could a VPI Scout Turntable Take Center Stage In My System? • Could a VPI Scout Turntable Take Center St... Today I discuss the effect of the new pulley, the ADS Speed Controller, a bit about belt drive turntables in general, some recordings that I was using to evaluate certain aspects of the performance of the VPI Scout. There are two audio files you can download of the reference track Pace Verde taken from Andreas Vollenweider's 45rpm 12'" single. The first one is on the Basis 1400 Rega / Rega RB300 / Hana ML set up and the second is on the VPI Scout /JMW Memorial / Hana / ADS Speed Controller system. Please download and see if you can hear what I am hearing. Pace Verde (Basis 1400) https://tinyurl.com/yjaxjkph Pace Verde (VPI Scout) https://tinyurl.com/ydf8zn32 Some comments on what j heard on the files and the live playback, both on my system: More immersive airy atmosphere on the opening sound effect More impact on the first drum hit, goes lower, more punch and detail The vocal section is more impressive in spatial character The leading pluck on the harp is cleaner without edge The pace is more solid. Little background details - guitar here and there are clear. The bass is solidly driving the track There is a better sense of depth, width and height of the soundstage Percussion at the end has more sparkle without brightness. Note: The graph shows the stereo tracks on the Basis on top, the lower two are on the VPI. From the VPI website: Send him the info right off the VPI website: “The ADS design includes two pure analog frequency generators featuring low distortion and noise; a high current Class-A/B amplifier that is transformer-coupled to the turntable output; analog control logic for low noise operation; 33/45 RPM analog speed adjustment controls with center detente positions that are factory calibrated. “ “ • There are separate speed adjustment controls for 33 and 45RPM. • The controls have a detented center position that is factory calibrated for 60 Hz (33 RPM)and 81 Hz (45 RPM). • The speed is continuously adjustable +/- 3 Hz” 00:00 Introduction 00:23 The First Update Video 00:56 Matt Saves The Day! 01:30 Pulley Installation 02:35 First Audition 03:00 The Audio Files 03:36 Testing The Speed 04:15 About Belt Drive Systems 05:35 The ADS Speed Controller 06:56 Apps, Tests and Graphs 08:26 Testing with Solo Piano 10:19 Testing with Organ 11:26 Testing with Orchestral 13:07 Testing with Pop//Vocal 14:19 Conclusion The Pressing Matters Amazon Affiliate Storefront https://www.amazon.com/shop/thepressi...
