Day one of the two-day early voting period for the 20th parliamentary election - voter turnout for today: more than five percent. Our political correspondent Park Ji-won has this report. Early voting took place on Friday with more than 35-hundred polling stations across the country. Famous celebrities, including Seolhyun from K-pop group AOA, and who was appointed an honorary ambassador for the election,... also exercised their voting rights, to encourage more people to vote. "A lot of man power and budget have been invested for the two-day early voting. We wish many voters participate in the process, so that all these efforts bear fruit." The turnout on Friday resulted in over two-point-two million people exercising their voting rights,... or five-point-45 percent of total eligible voters. The nation's southwestern Jeollanam-do province drew in the highest percentage at over 9-percent,... while the southern port city of Busan saw the lowest percentage of voters at 4-point-four percent. Friday's voter turnout was higher than the first day of early voting in 2014 local elections,... when 11-point-5 percentage of voters showed up during early voting period. As the nation's early voting participation rate has been keep increasing,.. the National Election Commission expects to achieve its goal of 14-percent by the end of Saturday.
