In this training video, Capture H2O explains why the High Cycle cooling water treatment program is critical to PepsiCo’s water stewardship and asset protection goals. The program focuses on two primary objectives: reducing water consumption by increasing cycles of concentration and reducing blowdown, and reusing on-site wastewater sources such as reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate and CIP water. By removing hardness minerals from cooling tower makeup water, the High Cycle program enables towers to operate safely at elevated cycles of concentration. These conditions maintain high pH, silica, and mineral concentrations that naturally protect equipment from corrosion and inhibit bacterial growth. Properly maintaining these operating parameters helps prevent risks such as Legionella, biofilm formation, heat transfer inefficiencies, and long-term equipment degradation. When implemented correctly, the High Cycle program allows PepsiCo facilities to significantly reduce water use, align with corporate water savings targets, and ensure reliable cooling system performance over the long term.
