100th birth anniversary celebrations (year 1917-2016) of the Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, Dr. MGR-Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, held Oratorical, Essay, Poetry, Painting and Rangoli contests recently at the college premises. Film Lyricist Mu. Metha, delivered special address and shared his thoughts on Dr. MGR. Dr. Latha Rajendran, Secretary, Dr. R. Manimekalai, Principal, and Dr. Abitha Sabapathy, President – Students Welfare, of Dr. MGR-Janaki College for Women were present. Over 1000 school and college students participated across events. Oratorical, Essay and Painting contests were held under Junior, Senior and College categories while the Rangoli and Poetry competitions entertained participation only under Senior and College levels. Dr. Avvai Natarajan, Former Vice-Chancellor of Thanjavur Tamil University, gave away prizes to the winners during the prize distribution event held in the afternoon. First, Second, Third Prizes and two Consolation prizes were given under each category and Participation certificate were given to all the participants. “Dr. M.G. Ramachandran is well known as an actor and politician by people of Tamil Nadu. We feel happy that the competitions helped public, especially youth of this generation, know more about his qualities that made him an illustrious icon. This was our little attempt towards taking his values to the new generation,” said Dr. R. Manimekalai, Principal, Dr. MGR-Janaki College for Women.
