Milk is a very important part of a toddler's diet and until they're about two years of age they should be getting whole milk. It should be limited to about 16-24 ounces per day. This may also be a good time for you to transition your baby from a bottle to a sippy cup. You can do this one meal at a time by giving your baby milk in a sippy cup starting with maybe breakfast, let's say. Then once your baby has gotten breakfast down with a sippy cup of milk you move on to lunch, do the same thing, and then on to dinner. It's usually best to eliminate the nighttime feeding last because most babies look to that for comfort. If your baby just simply doesn't like the taste of cow's milk you can actually try mixing it with breast milk or formula and eventually wean your baby off the breast milk or formula to the point where your baby is getting 100% cow's milk. This might take a little bit of time for them to adjust to the taste but eventually it will happen. It's very important to increase your child's diet, supplement with iron rich foods, things like meat, poultry, fish, beans, and other iron fortified foods. That is one of the problems with cow's milk versus breast milk or formula; it has less iron in it. You need to beef up the content in other foods that they eat. Talk with your doctor if you're concerned about the amount of milk your baby is drinking or you feel like they're not getting enough iron or if you're thinking of giving your baby a vitamin supplement. All of those things should be discussed with your pediatrician first. If you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.
