North Atlantic Geostrophic Velocity Time Series

This animation shows the geostrophic velocities [m/s] in the North Atlantic and Gulf Stream area for a period of about two decades (1993 - 2012). It was derived by applying the geostrophic equations to a time series of the Dynamic Ocean Topography (DOT) 10-day snapshots which in turn is based on instantaneous DOT-profiles (iDOT) of several satellite altimeter mission.
