This paper burns up in a flash! Making my own FLASH PAPER!!

From my early days as a magician, I have a deep love for flash paper. Nitrocellulose, also known as flash paper, is a specially treated paper which has been nitrated. The nitration of the paper adds oxygen atoms which accelerate the rate of burn. A longer soak in the acid might have resulted in faster burning paper, but I am happy with the results. I was able to make flash paper that burns very well. This experiment involves the use of dangerous chemicals which can cause serious injury or death. Please DO NOT try this at home! Flash paper / nitro cellulose / gun cotton are dangerous substances and should only be handled by professionals! Concentrated nitric and sulfuric acids are cooled in an ice bath, then mixed in a glass container. Paper is added and soaked for about 10 minutes, then neutralized in a solution of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Once neutralized, the paper is washed with water and dried. And POOF!!
