Our visit to wards D, E1, E2 & F on the second day of our official campaign tour of Alimosho LGA was a sobering but necessary reminder that beyond the glamour of our urban areas, there are part of our great state that lack even the most basic of amenities like motorable roads and potable water. Years of neglect has destroyed what little amenities exist and made the lives of the residents of these areas much harder. The Mechanic Association who preside over the mechanic village in Abule Odu and the traditional leaders in Idimu had a lot to share with us. Even before the elections, I think it is important that we share these images and applaud the resilience of the people who are living in these parts of our great state despite the challenges they face. There is so much that needs to be done to ensure that the standard of living is raised for these people before any government in Lagos can concern itself with competing as a ‘megacity’. We want to return power to the electorate and work hand-in-hand with them to restructure the goals of the Lagos state government to reflect current realities instead of unrealistic ambitions.
