The Honey Lane Market Garden at CERES contains an innovative aquaponics system. The idea of farming plants and fish together has been around for centuries. CERES Aquaponics system takes nutrient rich water (fish wastes) from fish ponds and circulates it through herb and vegetable beds to grow large amounts of organic produce. The fish are fed organic pellets and over time will be fed food waste from our Organic Café. This type of system can fit in a small backyard or be scaled up for commercial production. It requires minimal space and can even be installed on top of buildings - a smart way to feed people in cities of the future. Vegetables and herbs grown in the system are sold through the CERES Market and used in our Café and our restaurant - The Merri Table and Bar.
