A quiet Sunday night in Shibuya, Tokyo. My boss sent me here to deliver some documents, even though it’s my only day off. But I can’t say no—not when most of my salary goes to supporting my parents, and I’m living in internet cafés to save every yen I can. Shibuya is loud and bright, filled with tourists, capsule toy shops, and karaoke bars. Sometimes I feel like a shadow moving through the city—watching everyone enjoy their night while I just try to get through mine. Before finding a place to sleep, I stopped by a capsule toy store, walked past karaoke bars, and eventually headed to Ichiran Ramen. A warm bowl of ramen is one of the few moments of peace I have. Ichiran’s private booths let me eat quietly, without worrying about anyone staring at me. After dinner, I wandered through Shibuya’s back streets, past the love hotels and neon signs, until I found a net café with a shower. It’s not a real home, but for tonight, it’s enough.
