Living van life with a big dog means constantly finding ways to make travel safer and more comfortable. In this video, I share simple DIY van mods I made to help my German Shepherd ride more securely, reduce slipping, and feel calmer on the road. These easy upgrades are budget-friendly and perfect for anyone traveling or camping with large dogs in a van, camper, or RV. Today I made a few simple changes to improve comfort and safety for Charleigh inside my van. She loves to jump up on the fridge, toilet, and dash area — but slick surfaces were making her slide around and feel anxious during rides. So I grabbed a rug, some fabric, and a little spray paint to create quick, functional fixes that made a real difference. 🐾 What I changed: • Added carpet to landing areas for better grip • Covered the top of the fridge and portable toilet to prevent slipping • Made fabric skirts to help keep dog hair away from the fridge compressor • Spray painted the toilet black so it blends better with the van interior • Tested everything on a short trial drive afterward These upgrades don’t solve every challenge, but they’ve already helped Charleigh feel a little more secure — and that means everything.
