Sweet Jia Panpan & Jia Yueyue Without Mama (August 2018 Calgary)

Hi everyone! This video features 34-month-old panda twins Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue at the Calgary Zoo. They were separated from their beloved mama Er Shun in mid July at 33 months. The zoo confirmed that Er Shun had never rejected her cubs nor showed aggression toward them. However, the staff said that Er Shun was increasingly stressed out being with her twins and the zoo decided to separate for the best interests of this family. We were told that Er Shun has been so happy to be alone and Panpan and Yueyue have adjusted well. Er Shun quietly celebrated her 11th birthday without her twins on August 10, 2018. I have followed this family for a long time since Toronto era and know what the happy pandas look like. They were eating and sleeping well, but their enthusiasm and liveliness were noticeably missing. They were not nearly as playful as before. Both twins seemed to be still missing their mama. It broke my heart when Panpan went outside and sat at the door of his mama's room, shown in this video. I saw both twins repeatedly visiting Er Shun's activity area.
