A roadtrip from Chhattisgarh to Meghalaya. DAY 1 (18 Jan): Bhilai-Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Sundergarh-Kutra-Ambapani-Simdega-Kolibera-Ranchi (623 kms)(6:30 am to 9:00pm) A drive to North east was something that I had been planning for a long time. There are many tourist spots that can be covered across North-east but after some research I zeroed down on Meghalaya. To reach there we had to drive through 5 states namely Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Westbengal & Assam. With a target to reach Ranchi we started from Bhilai at 6:30 am and by 12:00 pm we had reached Sambalpur. After Sambalpur drove on Biju expressway till Kutra. We had our lunch near Sundargarh in Hotel 16. The entire stretch from Bhilai till Kutra was four laned. After Kutra we took a left turn from Biju Expressway towards Simdega. From here onwards we found ourselves driving on 2 lane roads. This section from Kutra onwards took us through some rural areas of Jharkhand and were very soothing to drive. Forests, fields, mountains & a river everything added to the charm of the drive. After crossing Simdega the roads were rough kill Kolibera. Kolebira to Ranchi was also a 2 lane road but in excellent condition. We reached our hotel in Ranchi by 9:00pm. First day of our drive had gone exactly as we had planned. Target of Day 2 was Bhagalpur and after freshening up we crashed in our bed by 10:00pm. I was accompanied by my mother during this trip. The entire tour lasted for 14 days in which we covered the following destinations of Meghalaya:- 1) Shillong - Capital of Meghalaya 2) Shnongpdeng village - A small settlement in East Khasi hills on the banks of UMNGOT river. 3) Dawki - Situated on India-Bangladesh border 4) Mawlynnong village which is famous for being Asia’s cleanest village. 5) Cherrapunji also known as Shora. To reach Meghalaya we had to drive through 6 Indian states namely Orissa,Jharkhand,Bihar, WestBengal and Assam. I did this tour in January which is considered as off season for tourism in Meghalaya.
