In this week’s Drums By Liz lesson, I demonstrate how to break down and build a Bossa Nova groove in a clear, logical way. Latin music is a beautifully intricate style, and it does require patience—but it’s absolutely doable. Once your body begins to absorb the coordinations, you’ll discover how natural, flowing, and inspiring these grooves feel. There’s something special about the way they settle into the body and start to breathe on their own. I encourage you to follow along and let me guide you through the various coordinations step by step. Learning this is no different than when we first tackled something like a paradiddle—it may have felt daunting at first, yet now it lives comfortably in our muscle memory. That’s the power of repetition and trust in the process. Over time, the body often gets ahead of the mind. I’ve experienced this many times while gigging—moments where something felt off, yet my body corrected it before my mind could even register it. Those moments are surprising, humbling, and honestly inspiring. They remind me that practice, faith, and something greater than ourselves are always at work together. I’m incredibly grateful that I learned an instrument and that I had wonderful teachers and mentors who guided me early on. I thank God often for the gifts I’ve been given and for opening doors that led me to a life of purpose. Drumming has never felt like just an occupation—it has saved me, inspired me, and helped me grow in countless ways. Sometimes I even wonder… is God a drummer? I like to think so! Drumming is mathematical. Drumming is infinite. What a God-given gift it is to explore this incredible instrument! Thank you again for tuning in to another Drums By Liz lesson! With love, light, abundant blessings— and as always… Happy Godly Drumming!😍🥁⭐️🙏🏻🌎🇺🇸❤️
