Raising public awareness about poisoning as an injury issue helps reduce harm, prevent avoidable injuries and deaths and ensure people know how to respond quickly and safely. Hosted by Sarah Macdonald from Parachute, this webinar will feature two experts in knowledge translation and communications, Chad Larabie and Samantha Bruin, who will share their approaches to effective community outreach and engagement. Chad Larabie, Knowledge Translation Program Manager with the Ontario Poison Centre, will walk participants through several community outreach case examples, providing an overview of the centre’s approach and lessons learned. Chad will also share recommendations for organizations working with limited resources when conducting community outreach. Samantha Bruin, Communications Manager with BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit, will share a recent case example of an outreach and education campaign for parents and caregivers on the harms of button batteries. Samantha will detail the process of developing the campaign, from conducting a knowledge survey to developing key messages and measuring results. Participants will gain practical strategies and tools for conducting community outreach and public communication, particularly with limited resources.
