In this video, I test Doom: The Dark Ages with full path tracing enabled on the NVIDIA RTX 5080 at 3440x1440 ultrawide resolution. I dive deep into how the game performs with DLSS Quality, Balanced, Performance, and Ultra Performance modes — and how DLSS Frame Generation and Multi-Frame Generation impact performance and latency. While multi-frame generation pushes the FPS above 140, the base frame rate still struggles without it — sometimes dropping below 50fps with path tracing on. That kind of latency makes this less ideal for a game that, even though slower than older Doom entries, still demands fast reaction time. I also reflect briefly on my past experience with the 4070 Ti, where ultra performance DLSS was the only way to get stable gameplay — and even then, image quality suffered. In comparison, the 5080's extra VRAM and raw power help, but it still feels like path tracing is not yet fully optimized for this title. So… is it worth it? Let’s find out.
