Kings Park Psychiatric Center Comprehensive Tunnel Tour, Bldg 7 to Bldg 136!

Before I say anything else, huge thank you ‪@braccoz‬ for making this possible! KPPC has been one of our huge playgrounds for years! We have become very familiar with all the buildings and tunnel systems. I can't speak for him, but this place was my first introduction into urbex and I met many friends in the process of exploring KPPC and online, because of KPPC. Let me start off from the beginning though. Kings Park Psychiatric Center (KPPC) was a state owned psychiatric center which was active from 1885 to 1996. But not all the buildings closed by 1996. For example, Building #1 was the last to close, which closed in 2012. That building can be seen with old style cameras on the outside, and a tunnel in the basement, which has been sealed around 1997. After the closure, many patients were transferred to Pilgrim Psychiatric Center (PPC), which is still active to this day. But some patients were also just released into the world, not knowing where to go or what to do, they would stay in the abandoned buildings in KPPC. The reason KPPC closed down was due to overcrowding. The Psychiatric Center was on one side of Indian Head Road and on the other side was the Kings Park Hospital. The Kings Park Hospital side is known as "Park Side". KPPC has everything that you could imagine, a railroad, a farmhouse, power plant, patient houses, etc. The most familiar building in KPPC is Building 93, which is 13 stories tall, the most violent patients were held at the top. And as this building closed down, it closed from top to bottom. Half of the upper floors would be abandoned but the lower half would still be in use, until it fully closed down. KPPC was well known for its medical techniques, lobotomies and electroshock therapy. Knowing these techniques, we all know that some people didn't make it out alive. Building 7 is where the morgue is located. Around 1956, medicine became popular which lessened the need for patients to be in psychiatric centers, hence the decrease in KPPC, on top of the overcrowding issue. OMH, Office of Mental Health decided to close Kings around the 1990's, and from there, building by building closed down. There were over 100 buildings on the property and some were demolished afterwards. To this day, they are demolishing more and trying to figure out what to do with the remaining buildings. Let me break down a few buildings for you guys: Building 93 - The MAIN building that was used to hold patients. Build in 1939, stood 13 stories tall. (The most visited building) Building 21 & 22 - Symmetrical buildings, side by side, separated by Building 7, which was also symmetrical, these 3 buildings together were symmetrical in every way possible. These 2 buildings, built in 1957. Building 21 held patients while Building 22 was used for records. Building 7 - The morgue, medical and surgical building. (To this day, there is still an operating table inside, with very few medical equipment) This building was connected to building 21 and 22 via a breezeway. On top of building 7 used to be a Cube, they demolished it a few years back. The Cube could have been seen from many places. Building 41, 42, & 43 - Also known as, The Quads. Personally my favorite place to hang out and explore. These 3 buildings are symmetrical in every way possible again. (Psychiatric Center's always were in a symmetrical shape) These buildings held patients, you can still see the dividers inside the rooms, at the end of the hall. This building has a very nice view of 93 and has a tunnel going under the road, which leads into the powerplant. Building 1 - The LAST building to close down in KPPC, in 2012. This was a reception building which was built around the 1930's. Building 15 - Known as the violent ward, where the MOST violent patients were held. There is NO tunnel in this building, which is different because every building on the property is connected via tunnels! This was built in 1940. Building 5 - The lock shop. Another one of my favorite buildings because there is a tunnel entrance in the woods next to the building. Fun fact, the State Police saw my 2 videos about it and resulted in putting a huge boulder on top of the tunnel, sealing it. Building 29 - The power plant, built in 1967. These are just a few of the buildings at KPPC, I can only write 5,000 words so that's all I will include haha. Park side was eventually turned into Nissequogue River State Park, where you have to pay in the summer to enter. But across the road where Building 93 is, you are free to roam around. One of the most recent buildings that was demolished was the Childrens Ward, which was definitely the most creepiest building on the property. 2 cool sites that you should also look into is, the water tower and the cemetery, I will leave that for you guys to find ;) A lot of my beginning videos on my channel is from KPPC, go check it out!
