The longest day of the year would see four locomotives in service on the Bluebell Railway, against hot and humid conditions. The bulk of passenger services would be handled by 6989 “Wightwick Hall”, having recently returned to service after some repair work. This marks the continuation of its extended Sussex holiday from its base of the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. Resident veteran O1 Class - 65 would handle the ‘Wealden Rambler Afternoon Tea Train’. 34059 “Sir Archibald Sinclair” had been rostered for service, but was declared a failure on shed at Sheffield Park before its first train of the day. Its duties would be split between Class 33 - 33108 and 32424 “Beachy Head”. 33108 has just begun its extended visit to the Bluebell from its usual base of the Severn Valley Railway, ahead of starring at the ‘Diesel Gala’ scheduled for the weekend of September 5th-7th; this day would mark 33108s first passenger service on the Bluebell during its current visit.
