Glimpses of Wilderness of Western Ghats... The Western Ghats mountain range running down the south-west side of India is a treasure trove of wildlife. Though it covers less than 6% of the land area of India, the Western Ghats contain more than 30% of all species of plant, fish, reptile, amphibian, bird and mammal found in the whole country. The Western Ghats, also known as the Sahyadri, is a mountain range that stretches 1,600 km (990 mi) along the western coast of the Indian peninsula. Covering an area of 160,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi), it traverses the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The range forms an almost continuous chain of mountains along the western edge of the Deccan Plateau, from the Tapti River to Swamithoppe in Kanyakumari district at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula. The Western Ghats meet with the Eastern Ghats at Nilgiris before continuing south. In this video showing the activities of the following three mammals during my trip to Western Ghats. 1.Dhole/Wild Dog (Cuon alpinus) 2.Gaur (Bos gaurus) 3.Nilgiri Langur (Semnopithecus johnii) endemic Langur to Western Ghats. I am thankful Dr.Blessan Santhosh George and Nitheesh for their field support to shoot the movements of Dhole. I am thankful to my all Warblers & Waders team mates for their field support and encouragement during the whold trip. April 2024. Please subscribe the channel to promote conservation of Nature.
