In the latest in a string of remarkable discoveries announced by Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities, CairoScene got the first look inside one of the most unique tombs found in and around the Great Pyramids of Giza, one that dates back to the Fifth Dynasty. Despite being 4,500 years old, the tomb, its wall inscriptions and coffins are all in miraculous condition. It’s believed to have belonged to two different people, both of whom held several high positions, with the first, Pehinwaka, serving as Supervisor, Priest and High Priest under several Old Kingdom Pharaohs, including Nyuserre, Userkaf and Neferirkare. The tomb also houses the coffin and possessions of Nui, who also held numerous titles, among them the Secret Keeper of the God Chephren. Though small in size, the tomb represents what could be the first step in finding even more hidden gems in Egypt’s most celebrated historic site. “What you can see and what you can find above ground does not represent more than 40% of what is hiding,” Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Antiquities, told CairoScene. “We still have a lot to reveal, we still have a lot to discover, we still have a lot to announce.” Video: MO4 Network Follow us on: Instagram: / cairoscene Facebook: / cairoscene Twitter: / cairoscene
