A hiker called 911 about 12:30 a.m. on June 7, 2025 to report someone in a remote campground at Isle Royale National Park seemed "completely unhinged" and was heard shouting, "I’m going to kill myself, I’m going to murder us all.” On the afternoon of June 8, hikers would report finding two dead bodies near that location. The deceased men were identified as Bradley Kenneth Baird, 30, and his 60-year-old father, John David Baird. What led to their deaths has not been revealed by authorities and remained under investigation as of July 31. Michigan state police dispatch obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
