DAW: Ableton – Live 10 Standard Midi controller: Novation – Lauchpad Pro MK1 Ableton Live is sending clock and run signal to Pamela’s Pro Workout. (Un)mutes and volume fades with Ableton mixer controlled live via Launchpad Pro. Kick, bass, hihat (all mono) and FX (stereo) are recorded individually into Ableton for mixing and post processing. Just a little EQ and dynamics (compression) – arrangement and sounds left untouched. Kick: Maths Ch. 1 Triggers (4 on the floor) from Pam’s Ch. 1 into Maths‘ Ch. 1 [CYCLE] input. (for some reason it sounded better than using Maths‘ actual [TRIG] input) Pitch envelope from Pam’s Ch. 2 by routing the envelope to Maths Ch. 1 [BOTH] input. VCA and filter envelopes are coming from Peaks’s [OUT1] and [OUT2] respectively. Boosting the low end by cranking up the input on Ripples and using its high pass filter with quite some resonance. Bass: Maths Ch. 4 Triggers (euclidean pattern, 13 steps, 9 trigs) from Pam’s Ch. 3 into Maths‘ Ch. 4 [CYCLE] input, pitch information by Pam´s Ch. 5 into Maths‘ Ch. 4 [BOTH] input (random CV attenuated to 8%, scale „Fifth“ C & G) As I’m using the [SUM] output, I change the bass timbre during the jam by attenuating the signal via Math’s Ch. 2. Hihats + tonal percussion: Plaits Synthesis model: Analog snare drum model Triggers (16th notes) from Pam’s Ch. 4 into Plaits‘ [TRIG] input, 25% swing Decay modulation by Pam’s Ch. 8 into Plaits‘ Morph input to get open hihats on the offbeats and closed hihats in between. Also receiving a copy of the bass notes from Pam’s Ch. 7 (Cross Op „Mix“ from Ch. 5) into [V/OCT]) During the jam I play with all 4 Plaits parameters for some variation. FREQUENCY: pitch HARMONICS: balance of the harmonic and noisy components TIMBRE: balance between the different modes of the drum MORPH: decay time All voices go into Veils for mixing purposes and VCA modulation. For example, I’m using the kick’s filter envelope to also sidechain the bass VCA (VCA offset to max, envelope fully inverted). Hihat (Plaits‘ Aux) VCA modulation by Pam’s Ch. 6 (random CV) into Veils‘ Ch.4 CV input. Kick and bass are routed separately into the audio interface (post VCA), so are the hihats (summed Plaits‘ [OUT] and [AUX]), only that their dry signal is being multiplied - one copy is going straight into the audio interface, the other one is being sent to Clouds (100% wet). Sidechaining of Clouds comes from the Ableton Live stock compressor. FX: Clouds uCell / Monsoon Used as send effect (100% wet) for individual processing. Minimal grain size, texture rather dull. Density is at 0 and jumps to maximum when pressing the coresponding pad of the Launchpad to get some kind of fill effect (pad is set to momentary and assigned to modwheel CC, [mod] output of NiftyCase connected to Clouds‘ [DENSITY] input.).
