Cherl Daly, LCSW, is the program manager for Day One’s Street Program in Portland, where she has also worked as a mental health and substance use clinician for the past 14 years. The Street Program, part of the Preble Street Teen Services collaborative model, is an outpatient office housed within the Preble Street Teen Center. It exists alongside medical and other service providers through the city of Portland’s Public Health Division to support homeless and at-risk adolescents in finding safety and stability in its many forms. Cheryl practices from a strengths perspective approach based in harm reduction and utilizes many different modalities to serve her diverse clients. Annie Akers, LCSW, has worked for the Street Program since 2013, starting as an intensive case manager and administrator for the Maine Mother’s Network, a statewide program designed to support mothers of young children struggling with substance abuse. Fluent in Spanish, Annie works with multicultural populations and is currently providing support for refugees and asylum-seeking youth as a co-facilitator of the New Mainers Group at the Teen Center in collaboration with Portland Adult Education’s Street Academy. Annie’s approach to social work is founded in harm reduction and is focused on recognizing and highlighting the inherent strengths within every individual and community.
