I came into this race feeling good about the P12 spot I earned during the morning sprint race, but that all got tossed out the window when I misjudged how much space I left on my right while going wheel to wheel through turn 4 on the second lap. In the moment, it looked to me that there would be enough space, but when viewing the video, it's clear I didn't leave enough space. A small bump on my door was all it took to throw the car into a spin. Driving on "a knifes edge at the brink of disaster" is a literal statement. There goes 4 places. Then 2 laps later, I go wheel to wheel through turn 10, holding my line at the exit going into 11 where the driver to my left turned into me slightly causing some small contact. Going into the next lap, Curveball comes up behind me. He slips by my left by the wall and makes a move on the 34 car. Seeing this, I dart over behind him to try and steal a position. I get a run on the inside up to turn 3, but used a bit too much pressure on the brakes which kicked the rear end out more than I wanted. Now I have a bad line out of 3 where an opportunistic driver tries to take advantage and slips their car on my inside into 4. We go wheel to wheel and I come out ahead. Now I'm back on the chase with the 34 car. Later on, I approached the 34 car going into turn 6, driving right on their bumper, and assumed they would get on the power when I would. They didn't. I bled off the of throttle just a hair to avoid bumping them at a sketchy corner to avoid what ironically happened to me next. That small lift threw the balance off and pushed me a slightly wide, just enough to get my right wheel to ride along the edge of the track and the dirt. I, once again, used up one of my 9 lives to avoid crashing into the wall. So now the whole process repeats where I get myself back together and eventually catch back up to the 34 car. There, I send it on the inside at 11 and finish the race in that position. Frustrating drive to say the least. SCCA SFR Regional 8 Group 7 Spec Miata #171 Laguna Seca 6/29/25
