In this forest, one of the first German mass graves was discovered in 1945. A German executioner who was the chief officer of the department was responsible for these executions. A total of 173 Norwegians, 6 Britons and 15 Russians were executed at this location. Many were sentenced to death by the Germans, but many were also executed without trial. A total of 194 men were transported here and no one came out alive again. The forest is full of tombstones. During World War II, this forest was called the Forest of Death. Most of those who were driven here were resistance fighters. They were transported here at night and shot before dawn. In order not to arouse suspicion among the neighbors, a shooting range for tanks was built in the same area in 1942. The neighbors were used to hearing gunfire around the clock, so no one suspected that there were executions here. Tanks shooting range is the only known preserved of its kind. The walls are 10 meters high and the course is 300 meters long. The intention was to shoot through all the openings without hitting the walls and end up in the embankment at the enf of the range.
