It is a one kilometer-long formation of massive rocks and smaller boulders. Composed of dark gray quartz diorite, it formed around 340 million years ago from the collision of two paleocontinents. The unique landscape we see today is the result of spheroidal weathering, which makes it look like a giant stream of rocks flowing down the mountain. The sourroundings are dotted with carved stone structures, thought to be crafted by the ancient Romans, yet some bearing characteristics reminiscent of earlier civilizations.
