Krithi : Pahi Sri Giriraja Suthe Ragam: Anandabhairavi Thalam : Adi Composer: Shyama Sasthri Vocal: R K Padmanabha Dr. R K Padmanabha (born September 26, 1949, in Rudrapatna, Karnataka), fondly known as RKP or Ganakalabhushana, is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist, composer, teacher, author, and cultural organizer with over 75 years in music. Starting his musical journey at the tender age of five having already been exposed to top musicians through local music theatre by then and blessed by spiritual figures like Vadiraja Swami (pontiff of Sonda mutt), he trained traditionally under his primary guru H. V. Krishnamurthy (at Vijaya College of Music in Bangalore from 1974 onward, with additional guidance from others like Seetharama Sastri and Nanjundu Sastri), debuted publicly in 1975, and balanced his early career with a bank job while earning a BSc Honours. Renowned for his resonant voice, emotive ragas, and devotional renditions of Trinity kritis and rare compositions, he has composed hundreds of original works, pioneered large-scale group singing, revived pieces like those of Sri Vadiraja Thirtha, and created musical plays on the Carnatic Trinity. A dedicated guru and social reformer, he has authored books (including the novel Anantha Naadam and his autobiography), led institutions like Karnataka Ganakala Parishat, and established music memorials. Honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kempegowda Award, and more, he remains a leading figure in Carnatic music, blending technical mastery, spirituality, and community outreach through concerts, teaching, and publications.
