German Watchmaker Lathe by G. Boley. This German made lathe is a piece of Germany's historic machine making past. What makes this precision metal cutting lathe a rare and very unique machine explained. We then go over the two disassembled lathes and all of the components each is made up of. Then we share the reassembly of the pair of G. Boley watchmaker lathes after refurbishment. We do this with great precision, fitting and lubricating and then testing each of the machine's components. This painstaking process is hard work but, in the end, it is required to allow the machine to perform as it was intended and built to do by the G. Boley factory. BUILDING THE PORTABLE OR MOBILE WORK STATION Patrick and Lance select a 1.75" x 18.0" x 24.0" project board (they are high-grade cutting boards) to layout all that will need be installed on this mobile work station. CHAPTERS 00:00 - START 00:35 - INTRODUCTION 04:42 - MAIL CALL VIDEO COMING SOON 07:39 - G. BOLEY LATHE PARTS REVIEW 13:09 - PROJECT BOARD REVIEW 15:23 - G. BOLEY STANDARD LATHE COMPLETED 17:14 - PROJECT BOARD UPDATE 19:10 - G. BOLEY SCREW CUTTING LATHE ASSEMBLY 28:42 - G. BOLEY SCREW CUTTING LATHE COMPLETED TOPICS COVERED Each of the two lathes shared in detail. Two lathes refurbished and assembled to the highest German precision standards. The first G. Boley refurbishment. This standard lathe is reassembled off camera. The Standard vintage G. Boley lathe bed head and tail stock. This machine is not being mounted to a project board at this time, it is only being built to share the differences between the more common lathe and the rare screw thread lathe. The second G. Boley restoration This machine is the focus of the video, so we share in great detail the assembly. This G. Boley watchmaker lathe, a precision machine tool has a factory one of a kind feature that allows for the ease of thread making of precision watch and instrument parts on a production level. Lance lays out and installs the rubber pad feet and because of the amount of space we select to us 7 allowing the table to if needed extrude off of the table for space if need be. These are no mare rubber feet. Patrick masterfully fits each component of the G. Boley's machine tools assembly together assuring that there are no issues, reducing the risks of potential alignment and or ware issues. FACTOID G. Boley was founded in Germany in the year 1870. German made G. Boley standard is S/N: 5369 a very early number and to share this single leg post lathe, the bed ways are in amazing shape. German made G. BOLEY special is S/N: 17623 a later version (our guess here) is a factory prototype that never went to the mass market for reasons we are unaware of. This single leg post lathe bed lathe features a chase screw cutting or thread chasing feature, a feature likely never produced on a small watchmaker lathe. The special lathe came with all of the attachments offered by the G.Boley company during that time and we have each fully refurbished and refitted for this watchmaker's special lathe and will share them in their own show once we complete the machines base build itself. FUTURE SHOW TO COVER THE LATHE IN USE The main G. Boley mobile machine build: The German machine being mounted to the project board are the main lathe bed, main spindle with cone pulley and a tail stock, a separate or detached motor and pulley, counter shaft with 3 accessory rich operational pulleys for speed control, an idler pulley (we are making 6 of these in-house and will share the builds) to operate the pulley belt drive attachments and a specially German made power control motor switch (Patrick favorite component) and an historic brass G.Boley dedication plaque. Active & Atom thank you for joining us. A.K.A. Patrick plays the role of Active and Lance plays the role of Atom as seen in this show on our uniforms, the wall behind us in the opening introduction and on Patrick's mug at 15:26 in the workshop area.
